Our History
Al Masaood is one of the great trading families of Abu Dhabi, known as successful merchants in the UAE and the Arabian Gulf for more than 5 decades. From their early years, Al Masaood companies have been involved in the commercial development of Abu Dhabi, with the late Ahmed Al Masaood becoming the first president of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and the company being the first to be registered by Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce in 1970.
The Group partnered with British company John Brown Engineering in 1970 to bring the first gas turbine to Abu Dhabi and the Middle East, and later with Weir Westgarth to construct the first desalination plant in the UAE.
Automotive has become a very strong component of the Al Masaood name, stemming from its association for over 30 years with Nissan (initially Datsun). Other well known brands have established themselves in Abu Dhabi through Al Masaood, including Bridgestone, Fluor Corporation and Volvo Penta.
In March 2017 Mr Masaood Ahmed succeeded H.E. Abdulla Al Masaood as Chairman following the latter’s tenure for many years during which he led the partnership with Nissan to become the dominant mass market automotive brand in Abu Dhabi.
Today, the Al Masaood Group is actively supporting the social, economic and commercial development of the UAE by operating, creating and growing a diversified network of companies that exemplifies the attraction of Abu Dhabi as a strong and dynamic economy.
