As part of our ‘Go Green’ campaign, we would like to shed light on the harmful effects of plastics to our environment and how we can prevent it. Did you know that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans? Not only that, did you also know that the rest of the plastic that has ends up in landfills will take hundreds of years to decompose, and never actually fully biodegrades? So there is no argument here, it is crucial that we find ways to reduce plastic waste as much as we can – today.
Abu Dhabi has taken a notable action lately by banning single-use plastic bags, starting June 1, 2022. This comes as part of a wider initiative to help protect the environment and reduce pollution.
For us as individuals, the key to success is starting with one simple step at a time. Reducing plastic waste in our homes can be a good start. Progress is the goal, not perfection. If we all aim to reduce plastic waste little by little, we will have a bigger impact than just a few of us who decide to become 100% zero waste.
Below are also a few tips that can help us reduce plastic waste:
- Avoid using plastic bags
- Say no to plastic cutlery
- Use reusable water bottles
- Follow the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
Let us all put this to action and encourage ourselves to say ‘NO’ to plastic. It is OUR responsibility to save mother nature.
